Database Administrator (dba)

Position Summary:
As a database administrator (DBA) you will be responsible for designing, developing and administering development and production Microsoft SQL Server 2005 databases.

Education:
A Bachelor degree or technical diploma in Computer Science, Systems Administration or equivalent.

Your experience:

  • You have at least two (2) years of experience as a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database administrator working with 24x7 production databases.
  • You have at least two (2) years of experience developing software applications using Microsoft SQL Server.
  • You are a smart individual who works well with other team members and has demonstrated this while working with other programmers or clients in the past.

What we expect from you:

Administration
  • You will support development and 24x7 production Microsoft SQL Server 2000 databases and database servers.
  • You will setup, schedule and monitor database backups and recoveries.
  • You will set up and maintain database security.
  • You will monitor, tune, and optimize database layout and growth for 24x7 production databases.
Development
  • You will learn our current database architecture and use that knowledge to design software that works with our current and future products.
  • You will work with the technical and business teams to design databases and database elements to enhance and compliment our Rebus e-commerce product.
  • You will work with Microsoft Visual Studio .NET, Microsoft SQL Server as well as our source code control, bug tracking, and other software development and management tools.
  • You will document your code within the code itself as well as within the design documentation.
  • You will alpha-test your code before passing it along to QA for testing. You will then work with the software testers in QA to bug-fix your beta-code before it is passed along into the production environment. Finally, you will work with technical support and operations to test and fix production code for clients.
  • You will review code for performance, security and conformance to the functional specifications.
Planning & Estimating
  • You will provide time estimates for development tasks as well as regular progress updates as you complete the tasks.
  • You will record and keep track of your time spent on individual projects and tasks for billing and future estimating.
  • You will work with your team to ensure that they stay on schedule and that they deliver according to the functional specifications.
Communication & Teamwork
  • You will provide mentoring for database-related tasks to your development team to help them complete their tasks.
  • You will work with other team members, including non-programmers, who you will communicate and work with to build our software and our company.
  • You will demonstrate respect for yourself, your fellow employees and also our clients - you can disrespect our competitors by building better software.
