Senior Developer

Summary: As a senior developer you will be responsible for setting the development direction of our software products. You will research and develop new and experimental modules and applications to further our corporate goal of evolving e-commerce.

Education: A Bachelor or Masters Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

Your experience:

  • You have at least five (5) years experience as a software developer building commercial software.
  • You have at least three (3) years of experience developing applications on the Microsoft Windows platform.
  • You have at least six (6) months experience developing applications using the Microsoft .NET framework, including having built at least one application or project in C# (or VB.NET) using ADO.NET against a Microsoft SQL Server.
  • You have worked on at least one project where you were required to read and write SQL queries, preferably using Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Your code is clean, to the point, documented, does what it is supposed to do and is readable by other programmers.
  • You are a smart individual who works well with other team members and has demonstrated this while working with other programmers or clients in the past.
  • You are a critical thinker with strong analytical problem solving and decision making skills that brings leadership to your team.

What we expect from you:

Designing
  • You will work with the technical and business teams to design new and experimental modules to enhance our Rebus e-commerce product.
  • You will learn our software product architecture and use that knowledge to design software that works with our current and future products.
  • You will design software using use cases, paper-and-pencil mockups, Visio and other standard software development tools and techniques for development by yourself and other software teams.
Coding
  • You will work with Microsoft Visual Studio .NET, Microsoft SQL Server as well as our source code control, bug tracking, and other software development and management tools.
  • You will take functional specification and turn them into functional applications.
  • You will document your code within the code itself as well as within the design documentation.
  • You will alpha-test your code before passing it along to QA for testing. You will then work with the software testers in QA to bug-fix your beta-code before it is passed along into the production environment. Finally, you will work with technical support and operations to test and fix production code for clients.
  • You will review code for performance, security and conformance to the functional specifications.
Planning & Estimating
  • You will provide time estimates for development tasks as well as regular progress updates as you complete the tasks.
  • You will record and keep track of your time spent on individual projects and tasks for billing and future estimating.
  • You will work with your team to ensure that they stay on schedule and that they deliver according to the functional specifications.
Communication & Teamwork
  • You will provide mentoring to your development team to help them complete their tasks and advance their coding skills.
  • You will work with other team members, including non-programmers, who you will communicate and work with to build our software and our company.
  • You will demonstrate respect for yourself, your fellow employees and also our clients - you can disrespect our competitors by building better software.
