VisionDirect.com finds clarity with XModus.
Challenge
VisionDirect.com is the second largest online contact lens reseller in the world.
In just four years, the company was in the enviable position of having grown
too quickly. Sales were rapidly increasing and VisionDirect.com's technology
infrastructure couldn't keep up with the pace of expansion. The result was some
serious growing pains for a company with the hard-earned reputation of being
able to deliver.
As more shoppers visited www.visiondirect.com, the company began to experience
server overloads, which resulted in poor website performance and lost sales.
The existing software was failing - it had reached its design limitations. As a
first attempt to combat these problems, VisionDirect.com upgraded to larger
servers, but only experienced limited success because the software still
couldn't keep up with the business demands. With no time to spare, Vision
Direct needed to rapidly implement a new e-commerce solution that could keep up
with the company's exponential growth while satisfying its business
requirements.
Solution
VisionDirect.com needed a flexible e-commerce infrastructure that could manage
scalability as traffic continued to grow. However, retraining all of its staff
was a daunting task, so VisionDirect.com wanted to maintain key usability features
of their current system's user interface.
With these requirements in mind, VisionDirect.com turned to XModus Software.
XModus designed and built a modular, supply-chain management system that
manages reporting, marketing, sales, shipping, inventory, ordering, customer
service, security, auditing, and web shopping.
After reviewing VisionDirect.com's system, XModus built a new software and
security package custom-designed for VisionDirect.com's needs. The new e-commerce
system coupled with a new data center allowed VisionDirect.com to double their
sales volume on the same server hardware. Future growth has already been
built-in and will only require additional server hardware as sales increase.
Unlike a regular business, an online store operates 24 hours a day. With
thousands of dollars in transactions taking place every hour, VisionDirect.com
couldn't afford to shut down their website for service upgrades. So, XModus
implemented the installation in phases during low traffic periods, ensuring
that no orders were lost and that customers and partners would not experience
any difficulties.
Results: VisionDirect.com Continues to Grow
VisionDirect.com's sales nearly doubled and revenues grew by 50% over the first
year of operations with the new e-commerce system. VisionDirect.com no longer
worries about system failures, which means the company can focus on what
matters most - growing the business.
Not only has the new software eliminated website downtime and service failures,
VisionDirect.com now has access to key reporting features and metrics that were
not available with their old system.
